Red Meat Causes Cancer!?
Red Meat Causes Cancer?
This is very debatable but a lot of researches have shown that red meat and processed meat leads to colon cancer😨. the World Health Organization has classified that processed meat - ham, salami, sausages- as a Group 1 carcinogen which means processed meat can causes cancer. Red meat such as beef, pork, and lamb are categorized as "probable" causes of cancer😟.
Although red meat is a good source of protein👍, but consuming too much may leads to cancer.
Red meat has high haem iron, which promotes carcinogenic compounds - N-nitroso compounds. Iron
promotes production of free radicals ; cells that have lost electron. Bacteria in our colon generates free radicals and combined with iron which is a deadly combination😥😥.
HOW MUCH SHOULD WE EAT?
Nutritionists recommend 500g cooked meat per week🙆. Beyond that amount, evidence shows that every 53 grams red meat consumed increases the risk of cancer by 15%😱.
Other meals to substitute red meat are:
- 65-100g cooked chicken
- 80-120g cooked fish
- 2 eggs
- lentils,chickpeas, peas
DO NOT BARBECUE OR CHAR MEAT!
Red meat that are cooked at high temperature - barbecue, grilling produce carcinogenic chemicals called heterocyclic amines and polycedic hydrocarbons😰😰. The chemicals formed when red meat are cooked at a high temperature. Oven roasting and baking involve cooking with low temperature, so meat cooked this way have lower amount of chemicals😇.
AVOID PROCESSED MEAT
The evidence involving processed meat linked to colon cancer is convincing. Nitrates-used as preservative in processed meat- may contribute to the production of N-nitroso compounds.
N-nitroso is carcinogenic, damages DNA in general❌.
Whenever you are cooking meat, remember to remove the fat😊.
